Working for yourself is not easy. In fact, it can be incredibly challenging, and getting it right is often a balancing act that takes time to perfect. However, nothing worthwhile is generally easy to attain, so don’t let the struggle get you down. If you needed reminding, or you’re looking for reasons why you should take the plunge and start your own business, here are the top 3 reasons working for yourself rocks!

You’re the boss

Yes, this is implied, but what does it mean? It means no more going along with decisions you don’t agree with. It means total strategic and creative control. It means having to answer to no one but yourself. Of course, this can be hugely challenging – but if you’re the kind of person who knows what they want, and who is up to the task of making tough calls and taking responsibility for them, then nothing will stop you.

Flexibility

You determine your own schedule. Do you work really well in the early morning, or late at night, rather than during ‘regular’ working hours? Do you have a hobby, extra-mural, or school-run that requires you to be more available during the day? Perhaps you only want to work half days, or 4 days a week! The sky’s the limit. You know your output – it doesn’t have to happen between 08h00 and 17h00, so long as it’s happening.

Commuting

Provided you work from home, this is one of the BEST things about working for yourself: no more commute. You save so much time (not to mention petrol money) when you’re not stuck in traffic every day – think of all the other things you could do instead! If you do have to drive, having a flexible schedule means you can work around peak traffic.
